    Description

This is simply an amazing vintage Mexican mask. Very unique and hard to find.
These masks are worn for Easter by the Otomi people of El Doctor, for carnivals in Queretaro.
This mask was made over a traditional ceramic mask mold using layers of glued fabric. The string mop hair (ixtle fiber) covers the head and shoulders and falls to the waist. The added cloth conceals  the dancer's face. During the procession and dances the masked ones follow the event, harassing and mocking the religious column.
I think this mask represents a leopard or hyena/fox.
    Probably from the 50s.
In excellent vintage condition. Some stain on the fabric as shown in photo 7 and 10. Wear consistent with age.
    Size: 8" x 6"
    Wig: 26" long
    Marked inside the mask: Queretaro
NOTE: Please remember this is a vintage used item and will show some signs of use or wear. If you are in doubt as to the condition of the item please ask for clarification before you purchase.
